Taking Sides is a performance developed at Obx Labs with Jason Lewis and Dwayne Hanley as part of the saying red series.
Saying Red is a series of interactive installations exploring new forms of text-based expression. The installations use a combination of real-time video analysis, captured speech and dynamic typography to visualize the spoken word. Taking sides uses the rap battle as a vehicle for this exploration, Dwayne enacts both sides of this traditionally two person form, while the visualization serves to illustrate the competition taking place in the lyrics of the song.
My role in this project included conceptualization, visual design and implementation of the software.
I also co-wrote a paper with Jason Lewis which was published at the ACM Multimedia Conference 2006
